1. 表示“反对”的动词

object, oppose, protest, resist, be against

object 反对,不赞成。 语气强烈,后常接介词to,即object to (doing) sth.

Robson strongly objected to the terms of the contract. 罗布森强烈反对合同中的条款。

oppose (=be opposed to) 指不赞同某一政策、计划等,且含有采取行动加以阻止的意思。

The committee opposed changing the regulations. 委员会反对改变规则。

口语中说“反对某事”时,大多使用be against。

protest 通常指人们聚集在一起,以言语、行为等公开表示不满或异议,也可指个人不认同某事或对某事心有不满。

Thousands of people blocked the street, protesting against the new legislation. 成千上万的人堵住了街道,抗议新法规。

resist 指拒绝作出改变或不屈从于外力而做某事。

The minister resisted pressure to resign. 那位部长顶住了要求其辞职的压力。

2. 表示“工厂”的名词

factory, plant, works

power plant 发电厂;a huge chemical plant 一座大型化工厂

works 泛指工厂,常和其他词构成复合词:ironworks 钢铁厂;gasworks 煤气厂

3. 表示“错误;过错”的名词

mistake, error, fault, inaccuracy, mix-up, slip, oversight

mistake 在口语中比error常用。这是因为error不用于泛指,非常正式,主要用于与计算机相关的语境中,或用于固定搭配:human error 人为过失;error of judgement 判断失误;computer error 计算机出错;pilot error 飞行员操作失误

find fault with sb/sth 挑某人/某物的毛病

He could always find fault with something, either in my writing or in my personality. 他总能找出什么毛病来,不是我的文章就是我的性格。

inaccuracy [C] 不准确;错误,差错
